After US President Trump announced his strategy for Afghanistan on Monday,much has been written about the eventuality of a negotiated settlement, the Afghan Taleban and Pakistan's role in the mix. Afghanistan's internal political situation has received much less attention.

 

U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to deepen the country’s military engagement in war-torn Afghanistan signals a significant shift in the position he has held for years.
