The classification of the Muslim community as a minority in the national perspective, is undisputed. However, what happens when this community forms the majority population in a State?

The classification of the Muslim community as a minority in the national perspective, is undisputed. However, what happens when this community forms the majority population in a State? Should it then still be treated as a ‘minority' in the matter of various State and Central schemes targeted for the minority communities? The issue has now reached the Supreme Court through a public interest litigation (PIL) relating to Jammu & Kashmir, leading both the Centre and the State to promise to jointly resolve the prickly issue.
