India has agreed to provide a US$ 100 million loan facility to implement Solar power projects in Sri Lanka.

The funds will be provided through Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) to add renewable energy to the country’s energy sector in accordance with the “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendor” National Policy Framework, a statement on cabinet decisions said.

Cabinet of Ministers has given approval to implement the project with priority to install solar power systems on the roofs of government buildings and to provide solar power systems to selected low income households in the Trincomalee, Moneragala, Anuradhapura and Hambantota Districts.
