Kabul: Two commanders in the Afghan security forces were killed in a Taliban attack on Friday night in Helmand province in the south of Afghanistan amid an unannounced truce between the two sides and while peace efforts by the Afghan government and its allies are underway.
The attack happened in the Jahanzib area in Nahri Saraj district in Helmand, said Omar Zwak, a spokesman for Helmand governor.
According to Zwak, Colonel Mohammad Zahir was chief of staff the 4th Battalion of the Afghan Army’s 205 Maiwand Corps in the south zone, and 1st Lieutenant Mohammad Jan Khpulwak was the chief of staff for the 3rd Battalion of Border Forces in the province.
Zwak said that the attack that happened last night left three other force members wounded.
The Taliban has also suffered casualties in the attack, he said.
The Taliban has not commented on this.
