Male: Maldives' People’s Majlis has announced that the parliament meetings will continue despite an administrative staff working in the office has tested positive for COVID-19.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Wednesday informed that an employee working in the maintenance department of the People’s Majlis had tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement issued by the People’s Majlis said the appropriate precautionary safety measures were being taken after an employee testing positive for the virus. In that sense, contact tracing work is ongoing and disinfection of the building is also going. It further detailed that the parliament sittings will be continued after taking more stringent precautionary measures.

The parliament has been conducting its meetings at the chamber after about half a month’s hiatus. The sittings were conducted virtually during that period. Initially, there were heavy criticisms over the issue of holding the meetings at the hall while the capital Male’ region was on lockdown. However, the health authority later permitted to resume the sessions at the hall with strict guidelines.
