Over 300 people charged over lockdown violations: Police

Maldives Police Service on Friday, revealed that charges against 312 individuals were filed at the Prosecutor General's Office over violations of ongoing lockdown measures enacted amid the COVID-19 outbreak in the country

Male: Maldives Police Service on Friday, revealed that charges against 312 individuals were filed at the Prosecutor General's Office over violations of ongoing lockdown measures enacted amid the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

According to a police spokesperson, a total of 582 individuals were arrested from April 15 to June 15, out of which 312 face charges. From those arrested, 37 still remain detained.

Additionally, Police also confirmed that over 9,000 persons were fined over violations.

Individuals that repeatedly violate the regulations enacted on the Greater Male' Region will be taken into custody.

Under phase two of easing lockdown measures in the region, authorities have allowed public movement without the need for a special permit from 0500 hrs till 2200 hrs.
