More trains to operate from Monday

May 15, Colombo: The Railway Department has decided to increase the number of trains operating in the country from Monday, May 18.
According to Railway Operations Superintendent Gamini Seneviratne, 20 trains are currently in service and steps will be taken to increase the number of trains and revise the train timetable for next week.
More than 11,500 people have applied through the mechanism to reserve the special permits to travel by train.
Train services and Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus services resumed the operations from last Monday, May 11 after the curfew in all areas of the country except in Colombo and Gampaha districts was lifted.
In Colombo and Gampaha where the curfew is still enforced, the trains and bus services are restricted only for office workers.
However, the general public even in the curfew lifted areas are equested to limit the use of public transport unless absolutely necessary.
