State Minister of Prison Reforms and Prisoner Rehabilitation Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle has appointed a committee to prepare a comprehensive national plan for the rehabilitation of drug addicts in Sri Lanka. 

The Committee will prepare a comprehensive national plan with strategic measures aimed at rehabilitation of addicts to find a solution to the severe prison congestion due to the increasing number of prisoners on a daily basis for drug offenses and to the increasing social catastrophe caused by the growing number of drug addicts in the society.

The Committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of Specialist Dr. Lakshmanath Welagedara, Chairman, National Dangerous Drugs Control Board.
