Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Friday instructed the Tea Board to conduct a proper investigation into the closed tea factories in the Central Province and resume production within a week.
The Prime Minister instructed the Chairman of the Tea Board to conduct separate inspections of the relevant tea factories and start production in those factories as soon as possible.
The Prime Minister also stressed to take strict legal action against any illegal tea production in those factories.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa gave these instructions at a discussion held at Temple Trees yesterday (17) to discuss possible solutions to the decision taken to suspend the production in 13 tea factories.
The Central Province tea manufacturers pointed out that about 100,000 people have already been severely inconvenienced due to the action taken by the Tea Board to suspend the production at tea factories in the Central Province without proper investigation.
Therefore, the tea businessmen in the Central Province requested the Prime Minister to conduct a proper investigation and take steps to start production in those factories.
