Former United National party (UNP) parliamentarian Vajira Abeywardena has said that the UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe made a statement last Friday (07) that he was ready to resign from the leadership of the party.

Participating in a Rupavahini program, Abeywardena said the UNP leader has said that the next generation should be given a chance to lead the party, adding that what was to happen to the UNP was now over and nothing more could happen.

Mr. Abeywardena also said that the party should appoint a person who can coordinate between the government and the party for the single post of National List Member of Parliament and not a defeated candidate.
