Colombo: Several Sri Lankan websites including at least two government and several private sector institutions were hacked by an internationally based organisation, last night targeting the National War Heroes Day.
A total of 5 websites were compromised, according to Ravindu Meegasmulla – Cyber Security Engineer at Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT).
“This is normal compared to the last couple of years because this is an attack carried out every year targeting the National War Heroes Day,” Meegasmulla told News 1st on Monday (May 18th).
He further noted, a task force has been established with experts from SLCERT, Sri Lanka Air Force and officials from the respective institutions to restore the usual operation of the websites; “We are taking necessary actions to take these websites back online.”
“What has actually happened is they have modified the content and put a logo with a picture. So we are taking the relevant measures to either take these websites down or make them normal again,” said Meegasmulla.
