Sri Lanka’s disaster office given masks, coronavirus clothing by US

The United States has given 48,000 masks, safety goggles and isolation gowns with hoods to Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre in a bid to boost the emergency response capacity during the Coronavirus crisis

Colombo: The United States has given 48,000 masks, safety goggles and isolation gowns with hoods to Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre in a bid to boost the emergency response capacity during the Coronavirus crisis.

“The United States is proud to assist Sri Lanka’s frontline responders as they care for Sri Lankans suffering from Coronavirus,” US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B. Teplitz was quoted as saying in a statement.,

“Helping to protect these healthcare workers while supporting Sri Lankan businesses and jobs is just one component of our deep friendship.”

The donation was funded by the US Department of Defence and all the items were bought from Sri Lanka to help local businesses.

The equipment was handed over the Ambassador Teplitz to retired Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe who is Director General of Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Office. (Colombo/June08/2020)
