SriLankan Airlines bring back 73 students from Bangladesh, another flight from Bangalore

Colombo: A SriLankan Airlines flight left Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake for India this morning (28) to bring back 124 Sri Lankan students stranded in Bangalore since the COVID-19 pandemic spread globally.

SriLankan Airlines UL 1172 departed from Katunayake to Bangalore, India at 9.10 am this morning.

There were no passengers on board the flight, and only eight crew members, including pilots, were on board.

SriLankan Airlines has taken all the food, refreshments and fuel needed for the return flight, as flights around the world have been suspended and airports are closed.

The flight is scheduled to arrive in Bangalore at 10.30 am and return to BIA at 12.55 pm.

SriLankan Airlines operated another special flight yesterday (27) to bring back a group of 73 Sri Lankan students stranded in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The SriLankan Airlines flight UL-1423 carrying the 73 students from Dhaka, Bangladesh, arrived at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport at 9.00 pm Monday.

The students were seated in small groups in the plane as they were staying in Dhaka, and were alit the plane in the same groups.

Following disinfection at the airport and checking for COVID-19 symptoms, the students were taken in special buses by the Sri Lanka Army to the Army-managed Punani Quarantine Centre for quarantine.
