Sri Lanka's Secretary of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs, Bandula Harischandra said permission will be granted to open cinemas from today. Theatres will be permitted to stage performances, dance performances and performances of music. All Theatres and Cinemas will have to abide by the mandatory health guidelines when operating, he added.

This decision was taken during a meeting held between the Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa and all stakeholders including, cinema owners, film producers and dramatists, he further added.
