At least seven officers were killed when a group of gunmen stormed their checkpoint in Afghanistan's southwestern province of Nimroz, provincial officials said.

The incident took place in the suburbs of provincial capital of Zaranj, on the way to Char Borjak district, Bahram Haqmal, governor’s spokesman said Friday.

Haqmal said that the assailants shot dead the officer stood guarding, and subsequently opened fire at the other officers who were sleeping.
