Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay said India could provide assistance for educational development programs in Sri Lanka, including training of trainers in the technical, vocational, education and training ( TVET) sectors.
The envoy made these comments at a special meeting held at the Ministry of Education yesterday (24) with the Minister of Education Prof. G.L. Peiris. Sita Arambepola, State Minister of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation, Secretary of Education Kapila C.K. High Commissioner Baglay further said that India is already assisting Sri Lanka with educational development programs, including the Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship Program, and could provide assistance in the future if Sri Lanka identifies the areas that need to be given priority for the development of the education sector in the country.
The Minister of Education noted that there are inconsistencies between the job market and vocational education in the country and this situation needs to be changed.
