Farmers in the northern province of Sar E Pul in Afghanistan, this year, saw a bumper yield of onion crop and are now finding it difficult to get a market to sell their crop. Asking the government to find markets for their produce, they warned, failure to do so would push them to return to poppy cultivation. 

Gulbuddin, a farmer from the province, said, “There is a significant increase in the crops, but there is no market. What should we do with all these produce?”

“The Ministry of Agriculture should solve our problems, we don’t have storage areas to store these produce,” said Obaidullah, another farmer from the province told TOLOnews. 

Akbar Rustami, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock said, “We are planning the establishment of some storage areas in Sar-e-Pul, they will be soon operational.”
