In an interview to the Daily Mirror of Sri Lanka, US Ambassador Alaina B Teplitz flagged apprehension about the Chinese development projects in the region, warning how some of the projects have transitioned in Djibouti and Cambodia, whicn the ambassador said were  worth examining. 

“People should also look toward PRCs actions in the South China Sea which has undermined the sovereignty of the region’s countries and endangered the livelihood of those dependent on fishing,” She added. 

On the question of India’s role in the region, she said India has a vital role to play in the region which is most populous but least connected. With its human capital and resources, India can play a significant role in promoting the regional economic growth, private sector opportunity and people to people ties. she stated.
