Maldives Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated that the government intends to amend tourism guidelines such that only tourists who test negative for COVID-19 are allowed to enter the country.
Speaking on state TV, PSM on Saturday night, Dr. Mausoom said the change will be implemented very soon, and said that the decision is being made to ensure the safety of all. Such a change would give more assurance to visitors that the country is safe, said the minister.
Dr. Mausoom added that 7,000 tourists are expected to visit the Maldives in September, noting that the current decline in number of visitors is due to travel restrictions implemented in important markets. The minister expects 120,000 tourists to visit the country this year
