The Maldives closed its borders as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 on March 27. The tourism-dependent nation reopened its borders on July 15.
According to statistics published by MACL, 7,607 arrivals were recorded in the first month after border re-opening, between July 15 and August 15. 12,833 arrivals were recorded during the next 30 days, between August 16 and September 15, said MACL. This is an increase of 69.36 percent compared to the previous month.
