Male: The India Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), a state-owned multi-speciality hospital built with Indian help, and one of two hospitals in Malé, has urged retired health professionals, especially doctors, to join back in a bid to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued by the hospital, it said that due to COVID-19, they have opened an opportunity for retired doctors/healthcare workers staying at home to come out and work for them.

The government of Maldives has declared a public health emergency for 30 days due to COVID-19 that has been declared as a pandemic by the WHO.  Some retired health professionals, as well as those who were staying at home for various reasons, have already joined back to help the government's efforts to combat and contain the virus.  So far 13 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the archipelago.
