As business relations with neighboring Iran and Pakistan are improving, Afghanistan observes a spike in illegal imports of goods.
Khan Jan Alokozai, chief of Afghan Chambers Federation, said that the volume of imported goods illegally coming from Pakistan and Iran is almost equal to that of coming through legal channels.
The trend is damaging the prospect of domestic production in the country and puts severe implications on the country’s economy.
Meanwhile, taking the cognizance of the issue, the Afghan Ministry of Industry and Commerce said, they are in touch with the Interior Ministry, officials from the border, and customs officers. “We are looking to ensure the formation of a committee to prevent it as soon as possible,” said a nominee from the ministry.
