The Maldivian Defence ministry has refused to share the exact number of Indian Military personnel present in the archipelago and the expenditure incurred on them, stating that it could lead to a possible strain in relations
with New Delhi.

Responding to the concerns raised by the Information Commissioner’s office, the ministry only stated that the Indian Military operates two helicopters and stays for other purposes, and refused to give more details. 

A media outlet had requested the ministry to reveal the exact number of Indian Military personnel present in the Island nation and the expenditure incurred by the government on them.
