Dhaka: Bangladesh Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has rescheduled her four-day visit to India amid ongoing unrest over their Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Md. Tarik Mahmud, director (PR-1) of the parliament secretariat, confirmed the information through a statement last night, The Independent reported.

A parliament source said, “The Speaker was scheduled to lead an 18-member delegation to India on March 2-5 following an invitation from Lok Sabha, but the tour has been rescheduled.”

The delegation included the speaker, chief whip, secretary of parliament secretariat, and other top officials of the government, the source added.

Sources concerned, however, said there will be a special Parliament session on March 22-23 marking the Mujib Year. Keeping this in mind, the delegation will not be travelling to India. The delegation, according to the sources, will visit India in a convenient time after the special session is over.
