Kabu: Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Afghanistan have surpassed 784 as of Wednesday, perpetuating fears of the threat the pandemic could pose in the war-wracked country.

The Health Ministry said on Wednesday that 70 new positive cases of coronavirus registered in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Kunar, Nangarhar, Faryab, Uruzgan, Nimroz and Baghlan provinces in the past 24 hours. MoPH Spokesman Wahidullah Mayar said that 542 samples of suspected coronavirus cases tested in laboratories, which out of 70 cases reported positive. He said that 31 positive cases of Covid-19 recorded in Kabul, 22 in Herat, three in Kandahar, three in Ghazni, two in Maidan Wardak, two in Kunar, two in Nangarhar, two in Nimroz and one case in each Faryab, Urzgan and Baghlan provinces. 

According to MoPH, till yesterday 40 infected patients have recovered and 23 others passed away due to coronavirus. Covid-19 cases is about to surpass 800 cases, while for three weeks most of provinces including capital Kabul is in lockdown condition. As coronavirus mobility is in upward condition, MoPH calls lockdown effective and said it has made tardy the spreading of pandemic, thus it is required of all people to follow lockdown seriously. Also police forces were tasked to forcedly implement the lockdown in Kabul. MoPH ask people for serious obedience to lockdown while, people are complaining of poverty and lack of food items. They call poverty the main factor behind coming out of home and violating the lockdown rule.
