Kabul: Afghanistan's National Security Council (NSC) says that Taliban have increased attacks in different areas after the week-long reduction in violence, with the body’s spokesman Javid Faisal, saying that the number of attacks carried out by the insurgents is averagely 44.
The Taliban vowed to reduce violence after signing the peace deal with the United States in February.
Faisal said on Tuesday that the success of the Taliban-US deal, as well as the peace process in Afghanistan, depend on the immediate reduction in violence and the intra-Afghan talks.
Faisal said that at least 24 civilians are killed or injured every day in Taliban attacks.
The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said that 41 people were killed at the end of the one-week reduction in violence, began in mid-March.
Taliban stopped attacks on the foreign troops after the US peace agreement but announced after the deal that they would restart attacking on Afghan forces. The group has not commented on the government allegations regarding the recent attacks.
Taliban agreed on a three-day cease-fire offered by the government during Eid days late May, but did not agree to prolong the truce. Now the government says that the militants misused the cease fire, but does not elaborate.
