Japan will increase its investment in Bangladesh after the pandemic ends, Japanese envoy to Bangladesh Ito Naoki said in Dhaka after his meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Japanese envoy after his meeting said that, despite the pandemic situation, the work of the Matabari project is progressing and it will be an industrial hub of Bangladesh and a game-changer for the country.

He said the economic zone at Arhaihazar of Narayanganj will be ready next year. Japan is also constructing another Special Economic Zone in Mirsharai of Chattogram, the second-largest Japaneset investment in the country. 

He also delivered to PM Hasina a message from Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and a video documentary on the visit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Japan in 1973 titled "Welcome Bangabandhu (1973)". Hasina thanked Japan for the kind gesture.

Bangladesh is currently holding a 10-day mega event to mark the 50th anniversary of its independence.

Hasina also appreciated the efforts taken by Japan for the development of Bangladesh, claimed her press secretary Ihsanuk Karim.
