The United States is giving “increased importance to Bangladesh” in tackling the climate issues, said Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin, adding the issues raised by the country would be incorporated in the upcoming leadership summit.

"They're showing much interest in Bangladesh. They've taken note of key issues that should come up in the Summit agenda,” Momin was quoted as saying by UNB.

US President Joe Biden, who took action on his first day in office to return the United States to the Paris Agreement, has invited 40 world leaders, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join the Summit to be held on April 22 and 23.

During his interaction with UN climate envoy John Kerry, Momin talked about the US $100 billion financial flow and the issue of NDC. Hopefully, these will be included in the agenda.

"Bangladesh wants to see each country meet their NDC  (nationally determined contribution) aggressively,” he said, “We believe that the Paris Agreement is the way out."

Bangladesh submitted an interim NDC on 31 December last year and was reviewing the potential to enhance its mitigation ambition to submit a quantified ambitious NDC by June 2021.
