Sri Lanka intelligence units have commenced an investigation yesterday (22) on the information received that leading criminal gang leader Chandana Lasantha Perera alias Angoda Lokka has been mysteriously killed in India.

According to the available information, Angoda Lokka has been killed by poisoning in India in early July.

According to information received through the underworld gangs, the Angoda Lokka was hit by a lorry while in a car park in India several months ago and injured. He has been reportedly treated at a hospital in Bangalore.

According to local Daily Mirror, Angoda Lokka’s rivals in jail and abroad had planned to assassinate him and used another underworld leader’s wife who was Angoda Lokka’s mistress and living with him in India to poison him on July 3.

Intelligence units earlier had received information that the Angoda Lokka had undergone plastic surgery on his face in India and was preparing to flee to Europe through a relative in Italy.

The intelligence agencies suspect whether the Angoda Lokka had planned to flee to Europe after spreading rumors that he had been assassinated.
