Bangladeshi State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said that he looks forward to establishing direct road and rail links with China via Myanmar, according to a report published by China's state-run Xinhua News Agency.

Speaking as the chief guest at a webinar "Bangladesh-China Development Cooperation: Experience Outlook" organised by Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) on Thursday, he said, "We've formally approached the Chinese embassy in Dhaka for rail and road links between the two countries via Myanmar."

"It is to help us also connect with other ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries as well," he said with reference to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
