Samsung to locally manufacture another 5G handset in Bangladesh

Samsung, the South Korean multinational conglomerate, has decided to shift the assembling of yet another 5G handset, Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, to Bangladesh, reported Daily Star.
The company has already been assembling its first 5G enabled, Note 20 Ultra 5G, in its Narsingdi plant in Bangladesh. The plant turned out to be a major success for Fair Electronic which started assembling Samsung smartphones in 2019 in Bangladesh.
In 2019 the plant assembled around 14 lakh 4G enabled handsets and 16 lakh in the following year.
"We are now focusing on 5G devices as we have the capacity to assemble the devices with the latest technological innovations," Mohammad Mesbah Uddin, the chief marketing officer of Fair Electronics, was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
Uddin was emboldened by the response he received when his company started locally manufacturing the first 5G enabled set. “We got a tremendous response for the first 5G handset manufactured in Bangladesh; about 8,000 units of Note 20 Ultra 5G have been sold so far.” he said.
He informed Samsung has a market share of around 19-21 percent in the country’s smartphone market, adding, of those his firm manufacturer 99 percent of sets. In 2019-20, locally manufactured handsets accounted for 51 percent of the total smartphone sale, while the imported accounted for 49 percent.
According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, the country has an average sale of handsets worth $1.17 billion.
