A high court in Maldives on Monday sentenced a stepfather for raping his nine-year-old daughter, reported Sun news.  Earlier the man was acquitted by Kudahuvadhoo lower court for the same offense citing lack of evidence. 

On his acquittal from the lower court, the state appealed against the decision in the high court. Setting aside the lower court judgment, the High court ruled that there was enough evidence to prove the charges against the man.

The man was charged under Article 9 (b) of the special provision act to deal with child sex abuse offenders.
