Authorities in the Maldives have tightened border measures for travelers that include mandatory ten days home quarantine for people coming from India, as the region braces a new wave of the COVID-19, reported Raajje TV.
The new guidelines exempt tourists. Maldivians living in India, and people holding work visas, coming from India will now have to go for a mandatory ten days quarantine upon their arrival in the archipelago. No exemption has been given even to people who are already vaccinated.
The measures came at a time when the cases in India skyrocketed, reporting over 300,000 cases daily. Several countries in the region have recently introduced India-specific border measures in the backdrop of the COVID-19 there.
The Maldives and India have an air bubble agreement that has supported the revival of the tourism industry in the archipelago. India, so far, has remained the largest contributor of tourists to the Maldives.
