Security forces in the Maldives on Friday arrested two people who had allegedly threatened to bomb the official residence of President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, media reports said. Security has beefed up following the incident.  

Police said that two people, carrying a suitcase, who were passing nearby the president residence had shouted to bomb the building. The men also claimed they had been carrying a bomb in the suitcase, reported Sun news.

Security forces quickly swung into action and arrested the men involved in the case. Their photos also went viral on social media platforms. Earlier, former president Mohammed Nashid was also attacked using an IED bomb on 6 May.  

In the past few weeks, similar threats were made to the country’s parliament and the Indian High Commission building in Male.   

The individual who threatened to bomb the Indian High Commission has been remanded to custody for seven days on July 5
