If war brings out the worst in people, it also brings to the fore humanity's nobler instincts when India evacuated a stranded Pakistani girl along with Indian students from war-hit Ukraine resulting in the Pakistan girl publicly thanking Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Embassy. Asma Shafique, in a now-viral video, said: "I'm very thankful to the Embassy of India in Kyiv for supporting us all the way here as we were stuck in a very difficult situation."
A few days earlier, officials from the Pakistan Embassy had offered food and assistance to distressed Indian students fleeing Ukraine near the border with Romania. A video of the incident also went viral on social media.
Later, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the embassy offered “distressed [Indian] students” help on humanitarian grounds.
Last month, India launched Operation Ganga, an ambitious mission to evacuate over 20,000 Indians, mostly students, from war-torn Ukraine. During the mission, New Delhi also offered assistance to evacuate nationals of other countries, mostly neighboring countries.
On Monday, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance in evacuating nine Bangladeshi nationals from Ukraine.
