A petition has been filed in Nepal’s Supreme Court, demanding Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli be sworn in again, citing the erroneous oath of secrecy and office he took on Friday, reported The Himalayan Times.
The apex court has accepted the petition. Two senior lawyers of the Supreme Court have filed the writ petition against the Office of the President and others.
The petitioners argued that when the president was administering the oath of office and secrecy to Oli, the latter told the former that a phrase of the oath - "I solemnly and sincerely pledge"- was not necessary and such an utterance by the PM during the swearing-in ceremony undermined the prestige of the president's office.
In the petition, they cited the example of former US president Barack Obama who had to retake the oath of office and secrecy as the oath he had taken earlier was not in sequential order.
The duo asked the court to issue direction to Oli to retake the oath of office and secrecy and bar him from working as the PM until he is sworn in again.
