Twenty eight Bangladeshi crew members were rescued from northern Black Sea after a missile hit their ship, killing a Bangladeshi sailor onboard. Russia on Thursday has regretted the death and assured Bangladesh they are making every effort for the safe departure of the vessel.

"We express deep condolences to the near and dear ones of the deceased," the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh said in a statement, without any further details.

On Wednesday, MV Banglar Samriddhi, a bulk carrier registered in Bangladesh, which was anchored at the north Black 🌊  port of Olivia was reportedly hit by a Russian missile. Md Hadisur Rahman, 29, the ship’s third engineer, was killed in the incident, confirmed the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC).

On 24 February, Russia launched a full-scale invasion in Ukraine which was termed "special military operations" by President Vladimir Putin. On Friday, the war entered into the tenth day, raising fear of mass civilian casualties in the conflict.

The statement issued by the Russian Embassy in Dhaka said "circumstances of the incident are being established." It further accused the Ukrainian authorities of using civilians, especially foreigners, as a human shield—a claim repeatedly denied by Kyiv.

The ship was stranded in the port from 22 February and could not move in the absence of permission from the port authorities which halted all operations after the beginning of the war.
