UN chief discusses Nepal's LDC graduation, peacekeeping role with PM Dahal
The 76th session of the UN General Assembly in 2021 unanimously adopted a resolution endorsing Nepal's graduation from the LDC category with a preparatory period of five years.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' at the United Nations and discussed various aspects of the world body's engagement with the South Asian nation.
Guterres thanked Nepal for its active engagement with the United Nations, including its significant contribution to peacekeeping. They discussed mutual concerns related to climate change, challenges faced by Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and the importance of the government’s leadership in Nepal’s graduation from its Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
