In what seems a result of concentrated efforts by the Indian Ocean archipelago to contain the spread of the COVID-19, the Maldives recorded just 15 cases in the last 24 hours, Sun news reported.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said on Monday that the country reported 15 cases of positive COVID-19 infections, 14 of them belong to the Greater Male region while one reported from a resort. Total positive cases now stand at 13,213 while active cases remain only 722.
1731 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, the HPA informed. The country has tested around 2,47,648 samples since the beginning of the virus in March. 47 people have died of complications caused by COVID-19.
Currently, 70 people are admitted to hospitals. The archipelago has successfully contained the large scale spread of the virus in Greater Male- a region which reported most infections in the country.
The Maldives stands to benefit from a lower infection rate as the situation will help the nation revive its tourism industry which has posted remarkable growth amid the global pandemic. Given its low infection rate, many international airlines have started flight operations to the country.
