Sri Lanka's Parliament will felicitate 28-year-old singing sensation Yohani De Silva next week over the global recognition she has achieved for the country. A parliament statement said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, and several other legislators will attend the felicitation ceremony, which will be held under health guidelines.
Yohani earned her fame for her song "Manike Mage Hithe," which has been trending in the global music charts for weeks, in Asia and the South Asian diaspora.
The song has been played in all parts of the world including India and China. It also made her gain entry into India's Bollywood film industry as a playback singer to Indian songs.
The song has been viewed for 183 million times on YouTube, which was a boost to Sri Lanka's local music industry. Accoridng to Xinhua news agency, Yohnani is very popular on Tik-Tok and her song has been trending in China as well.
Yohani Diloka de Silva, 28, popularly known as Yohani, is not just a singer, but songwriter, rapper, music producer, and YouTuber. She is also a businesswoman of musical instruments.
Yohani shot to fame after the release of her rendition of Manike Mage Hithe. It is actually a 2020 Sinhala song by Satheeshan Rathnayaka but the song got recognition after Yohani’s version came out in May. The lyrics are written by Dulan ARX.
