Pakistan will open vaccination for all age groups by July end, said Asad Umar, Pakistan’s federal planning minister. So far, the country has administered vaccines to  1.1 million people; among them, 55,000 are those who had received vaccines through private firms.

According to a report in Dawn, Umar termed the next four to six weeks “crucial” for the country. On Thursday, the country reported 100 deaths for the second consecutive day. Daily case count also remains well above 5000. 

China is currently Pakistan's "primary source" for vaccines, Umer said, adding, the Cansino Covid-19 vaccine will also be available in the country after Eid. "We will be able to vaccinate more than 125,000 people per day after Eid," He was quoted as saying by Dawn. 

The number of critical patients in the country remained higher than what we recorded last year, he said. And the third wave, that the country has been witnessing now, spreading like a wildfire now. 

"Strict enforcement of SOPs (standard operating procedures) can bring down the rising rate of infection," he stressed.

Recently, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC)-- the body that manages the Covid crisis in Pakistan--reimposed several restrictions to slow down the spread. Classes, gatherings, indoor dining have also been banned in major Pakistani cities.

Punjab province remains the worst affected, with almost 3000 cases reported on Thursday.
