The administration of the Lahore University in Pakistan expelled two students for what they call the “gross misconduct and violation of the University’s rules”. Their crime: A video of a girl proposing to a boy from the same university in the campus went viral on social media.
According to a report on Geo TV, a video showing the university girl with her right knee bent, proposing to a boy from the university with a bouquet of roses, went viral on social media. The boy, as seen in the video, later hugged the girl.
The unusual, and somewhat bold, initiative of the girl found many admirers on the internet; however, it hasn’t gone down well with the conservative-minded university administration.
“A meeting of the Special Disciplinary Committee was held on 12-3-2021 at 10:30 am in the Office of the Rector," reads a notification issued by the university. The students, they alleged, were involved in “gross misconduct and violation of University Rules. The students had been asked to appear before the committee however they failed, the administration claimed.
The university decision of expelling the couple further took Twitter by storm, with some users criticizing the harsh treatment meted out to them while the rest shared memes on the university, ridiculing the puritanical attitude of the administration.
