Pakistan SC set to hear Musharraf's arguments

Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan will take up on Monday an application filed by former Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf against the decision of the apex court's registrar to return his appeal challenging his conviction in the high treason case.
In December last year, a special court in Islamabad had found Musharraf guilty of high treason and handed him death sentence under Article 6 of the Constitution.
The former president in January filed an appeal in the SC seeking to overturn the special court’s verdict, but the SC registrar office returned the plea on the grounds that unless the petitioner surrendered himself, his appeal could not be entertained.
The counsel for Musharraf then proceeded to file an appeal against the SC registrar’s decision.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed will hear arguments on this appeal filed by the former president in his chamber on Monday. The SC registrar office has issued a notice to Musharraf's counsel in this regard.
