Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior on Tuesday said that around 600 Taliban prisoners who were freed as part of the prisoner exchange deal have been returned to the battlefield, reports Arian news.

The ministry also said most of them have been killed on the battlefield. The rule under the prisoner exchange deal was clear that the freed prisoners would not return to fighting.

Since the start of the intra-Afghan negotiation in Doha, Qatar, the insurgent group has changed its fighting tactics. The group has increased its attacks on security checkposts of the Afghan forces, mounting heavy casualty.

Earlier, Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh blamed the group for the deadlock in the Doha negotiation, accusing them of not showing flexibility in the process. He also said the group doesn’t believe in resolving the Afghan war through negotiation.

Violence in the country has increased many folds as the intra-Afghan negotiation goes on in Doha. Recently there have been attacks on educational centres in Kabul.

Though the Taliban didn’t take the responsibility for these attacks, the Afghan government blamed them for orchestrating these attacks. The Afghan First Vice President Amrullah Saleh openly blamed the Taliban for the Kabul University attack which killed 22 people and wounded 40 others.

Under the US-Taliban deal signed on 29 February, the group committed to reducing violence.
