Afghanistan’s first Vice President Amrullah Saleh said on Saturday that the external dimension of the Afghan war is bigger than the internal dimension, Tolonews reported. Saleh’s comment came during the second meet of the High Council of National Reconciliation (HCNR).

Afghan political leaders today participated in the second meeting of the reconciliation council under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah. The meeting happened in two-parts, the first in front of the media while the second part took place behind closed doors.

Abdullah made it clear that the negotiations will resume on 5 January, as was agreed upon earlier. The venue of the talks must not be an obstacle in the way of negotiation, he added.

The High Council was formed to bring the diverse political sides of the Afghan republic under one Umbrella. The council is tasked to provide direction and leadership to the Republic negotiation team.

“The people of Afghanistan are determined to support and welcome the peace process. We and the people of Afghanistan are supporting the Islamic Republic’s negotiation team, and we are looking forward to positive outcomes in the second phase,” Dr. Abdullah Abdullah was quoted as saying by Tolonews.

The negotiation team did a good job, and the Afghans are in urgent need of peace, said former President Ashraf Ghani in the meeting.
