Aziz Yuldash, the leader of an internationally designated terrorist organization, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, was killed on Thursday in an operation undertaken by Afghan security forces in Faryab province, TOLOnews reported quoting the Ministry of Defense.
“Aziz Yuldash had been involved in terrorist attacks and killing of Afghans in the northern provinces," a spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense said. The leader’s son was also wounded in the operation.
The Jihadi organization that was founded in 1998 and wreaked havoc initially in the southern part of Uzbekistan has been using Afghanistan as a base and sanctuary since then. The group earlier pledged their allegiance to al-Qaeda and the Taliban but later shifted their loyalty to ISIS in 2015.
Lately, the group’s activities have become limited to only in the northern region of Afghanistan and its relation with the Afghan Taliban deteriorated over time.
