Afghan capital Kabul on Tuesday morning reported three explosions within three hours which killed two people, including an influential cleric in Afghanistan, TOLOnews reported.
The first incident reported around 7:30 in the morning when a sticky bomb attached to a military vehicle went off, injuring two soldiers. The Kabul Police confirmed the incident in a statement.
An hour later, at around 8:30 am, the second bomb targeted a civilian vehicle went off, killing people.
Among the dead was an influential cleric Mohammad Atif, the head of a Kabul based Islamic organization.
Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, condemned Atif’s killing. He called him “a supporter of peace.” Afghan President Ashraf Ghani also issued a statement, condemning his killing. Ghani also said the killing is the latest in the spree of targeted assassinations.
The third explosion was reported from the western part of the capital. Kabul Police confirmed that a vehicle was targeted, which wounded a civilian.
A recent report released by US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) said between October to December last year, around 810 civilians were killed in Afghanistan. The last year reported more than 5000 civilian casualties too.
