At least twelve members of Afghan security forces were killed and another ten wounded in an attack by the Taliban in the northwestern province of Badakhshan on Tuesday, TOLOnews reported.
Quoting sources, TOLOnews reported around four members of the Afghan National Police were also taken captive by the insurgent group in the same attack that happened in Jurm district of the province.
The Taliban took responsibility for the incident where they attacked a police checkpost.
In a separate incident in Qaisar district of Faryab province, the insurgent group targeted a district police headquarters killing at least three security personnel. Provincial Governor Naqibullah Fayiq confirming the incident to Tolonews said the attack was repelled by the Afghan forces.
Despite intra-Afghan talks, currently happening in Qatar, violence in Afghanistan remained very high. The EU and US special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad earlier expressed their concern over rising high violence in the country terming it “unacceptably high.”
