An Afghan army commander and a district police chief were killed by the Taliban’s attacks on Sunday evening and Monday morning respectively in Afghanistan, TOLOnews reported.

Mohammad Rafiq Alokozai, who was the district police chief of Ode district in western Heart province, was killed on Monday morning in a Taliban ambush 15 km away from the district centre.

Herat Police Chief Abdul Ahad Wahizada blamed the attack on the Taliban though the group has not claimed it.

In another incident that took place Sunday evening, an army commander, Abdul Basir Nuristani was killed in Bala Murgha district of Badghis province when a mortar, launched by the Taliban, landed in an army base. 11 soldiers were also wounded in the same attack, officials said as reported in TOLOnews.

Earlier on Sunday evening, the Afghan forces conducted airstrikes in Giro district of Ghazni province. The strike killed a Taliban commander, Hamza Waziristani, who was the mastermind behind the Sunday suicide attack where 30 soldiers had been killed.

In the strike, the Afghan defense ministry said, six other terrorists were also killed and a large amount of ammunition and weapons were destroyed.
