Bhashan Char: Better place for Rohingya refugees to live

As far as civic amenities are concerned, the first batch of Rohingyas, who will arrive in Bhashan Char within days, will lead a much better life here than in Cox’s Bazar, where more than a million Rohingya refugees who have fled persecution in neighboring Myanmar, have been living for the last few years.

Also, the residents will be better off in other aspects as the pristine island in the Bay of Bengal is a far cry from the congested camps in the coastal district of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh authorities say.

As part of the government plan to relocate little over 100,000 out of more than a million Rohingyas to decongest the settlements in Cox’s Bazar, nearly 2,500 persecuted people are expected to land in the island in a couple of days.
